September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and is also Orange Shirt Day. This day is both important and difficult, as a time for remembering Indigenous children and families harmed by Canada’s residential school system, for recognizing the continued effects of settler colonialism and intergenerational trauma, and for reacting by taking meaningful action.

ULFA is giving an enthusiastic kudos to Joy Morris for her outstanding efforts towards the successful reorganization of the Academic Staff Collective Agreement. This work immediately followed a grueling 629 days of collective bargaining, of which Joy was an instrumental member on the ULFA Negotiating Team.
The University of Lethbridge Faculty Association (ULFA) is seeking to hire a full-time, continuing position for an Administrative Officer. The successful applicant will have administrative and support duties related to ULFA activities including its committees, initiatives and all labour relations matters arising from grievance and collective bargaining.
In this update I will point you towards a number of events happening this month and next that have to do with governance issues and let you know of some discussions and activities we have had or are planning.
ULFA Vice President, Chris Burton, and UL Calgary faculty member, Robbin Derry, traveled out to Université Sainte-Anne at Church Point, N.S. last week as “flying pickets”, supported by the CAUT Defence Fund. The Fund sponsors members from universities across Canada to visit striking faculties to strengthen and encourage local members in their efforts, recognizing the vital important of standing together as union members.
In view of the upcoming AGM, the Nominations Committee has begun to solicit nominations from the Membership for a number of vacant positions. Members are invited to either self-nominate or be nominated by another Member.
The University of Lethbridge Faculty Association (ULFA) and the Board of Governors of the University of Lethbridge completed a round of enhanced mediation Friday March 18.
