ULFA Update on Collective Bargaining August 27 & 28

The negotiating teams for the Board and ULFA met on August 27 and the afternoon of August 28 for two bargaining sessions toward a new Academic Staff Collective Agreement (ASCA). One ULFA Member attended as an observer on August 28. These meetings represent the sixth and seventh joint meetings for this round of negotiations.

Since both teams had presented all proposals except for Schedule A by the end of the July 24 and 25 sessions, the parties sought to determine which team would respond first to each Article or Schedule for which both teams proposed language changes. Additionally, the ULFA team presented responses to the Board’s proposals for Articles 2, 13, 16, 18 and 29, and the Board team presented responses to ULFA’s proposals for Articles 11, 12 and 33.

The August 27 and 28 sessions included interest-based discussion of the Teaching Professor concept, some of which extended beyond the parameters outlined in the Teaching Professoriate Working Group report. The ULFA team looks forward to the Board’s written response on this topic.

The next bargaining sessions are scheduled for September 9 and 10, 2024. Schedule A remains the sole item to be tabled of the items the Board and ULFA opened.
