This past weekend was the 98th Council of the Canadian Association of University Teachers. It was also the last Council for Claudia Steinke in her three terms as CAUT Representative-At-Large.
Dr. Steinke’s leadership on the ULFA Executive was already remarkable. She showed incredible integrity, grace, and resolve through many disruptive events, often happening concurrently: the pandemic, budget cutbacks, staff turnover, job action, and more.
Then, without missing a beat, she went forward to sit as a CAUT Representative-at-Large. Over multiple terms she worked to improve academic conditions for ULFA Members and academic staff throughout Canada. This shows an outstanding commitment to improving the working life of her fellow academics, and towards building a strong and democratic academic union movement.
