Aaron Chubb

Executive Director

The Executive Director (ED) oversees the implementation of elected member’s decisions. This includes coordinating the ULFA office and standing as a member on ULFA’s Committees as an ex-officio non-voting member. The ED assists with ULFA’s external relations, including communications, grievances, collective bargaining, solidarity efforts, and our participation in the Confederation of Alberta Faculty Associations (CAFA) and the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT). The ED also provide guidance on the Academic Staff Collective Agreement and serves as staff support for the returning officer for ULFA elections. 

Aaron Chubb is ULFA’s current ED. He has had a range of jobs in post-secondary as a lecturer, in campus radio, for PIRGs, staff for student government and in student learning services. His research is in adult education, focusing on social movement learning and labour union education. He graduated from the University of Lethbridge with B.A (2005), double majoring in Drama and Anthropology and was a founding board member of the Lethbridge Public Interest Research Group. In 2012 Aaron received his M.Ed from the University of Alberta where he studied social movement learning and labour union education in the Educational Policy Studies Department. He was a learning strategist and headed up the Study Skills program for the University of Lethbridge from 2013-2019, prior to his arrival at ULFA.

Brendan Bruce

Organizing & Member Engagement Officer

Brendan is pleased to join the ULFA staff team as your new Organizing and Member Engagement Officer.  His academic background ranges from an undergraduate in Classics/Anthropology to graduate work in philosophy and political science.  He has a life-long commitment to the labour movement, from being carried by his mother on her ATA picketline as a baby to organizing rank and file union movements as an adult.  He brings with him a variety of post-secondary union experience from researcher to labour relation officer and recently working as Executive Director at CAFA.

The Organizing and Member Engagement Officer position is a new staff position, replacing the previous Labour Relations Officer role and reflects an increased emphasis on member organizing and participation. For Member inquiries and support Brendan can be reached at officer@ulfa.ca.

Meghan McCrae

Administrative Officer

The Administrative Officer is responsible for ensuring that the Association is provided with the necessary information and support to conduct its affairs in a timely and effective manner, performing duties that support the Executive and standing committees, management of the day-to-day operations of the office, and liaising with the membership.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee shall comprise the Association’s officers other than the Ombuds Officer, the most recent and available Past President ex officio, the chairs of standing committees, and the Executive Director (non-voting). Subject to these bylaws and to any resolution enacted by a general meeting, the Executive Committee shall have the authority to manage and direct the Association’s affairs.

The President shall call meetings of the Executive Committee as required to deal with the affairs of the Association, and at least one week prior to any general meeting of the Association. In the absence of the President, an Executive Committee meeting may be called by the Vice-President/President Nominate or, if that Member is also absent, by the Treasurer.
There shall be a joint meeting of the incoming and outgoing members of Executive Committee in June of each year. Read full bylaws here.
