ULFA is Hiring – Organizing & Member Engagement Officer

The University of Lethbridge Faculty Association (ULFA) is seeking to hire an Organizing & Member Engagement Officer. The successful applicant will support efforts to empower members by building networks, engaging under-represented segments of the academic staff and organizing around bargaining, governance, and workplace issues. 

ULFA is the exclusive bargaining agent for 600 academic staff members at the University of Lethbridge. We exist to unite, empower and to help make things better (read more here).  

Position Title: Organizing & Member Engagement Officer
Employment Definition: Continuing, full-time position (following 12-month probation)
Compensation: $70,000- $95,000 FTE, based on experience, plus benefits package. 

Summary of Responsibilities:

  1. Build and support steward networks representing the diversity of academic staff; 
  2. Mapping, research and analysis to engage members in identifying and resolving concerns; 
  3. Identify, track and ensure that deadlines are met with respect to all grievance related matters; 
  4. Provide support for member-led committees including minute taking, research and analysis; 
  5. Organize educational and engagement opportunities for members & volunteers; 
  6. Support ULFA’s internal and external communications and campaigns; 
  7. Supporting the Executive Committee and fellow staff on labour relations matters, as needed. 

Qualifications:

  1. Experience in union, grassroots, or community organizing — preferably in a post-secondary or labour context; 
  2. Demonstrated ability to build relationships, recruit volunteers, run member outreach campaigns, and coordinate engagement activities; 
  3. Excellent written and digital communication skills (email, social media, newsletters, and/or website content), post-secondary education preferred; 
  4. Demonstrated understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion in organizing, communication, and advocacy work; 
  5. Valid Class 5 AB Driver’s License & eligibility to work in Canada.
