On February 7th, the Board and ULFA negotiation teams held their third negotiation session following the close of formal mediation on January 17th. This was the first session after the official announcement of ULFA’s 92% strike vote by the Alberta Labour Relations Board (ALRB). The February 1st and 4th negotiation sessions are reported here. The February 7th session consisted of further discussion of current negotiation positions following the close of mediation. The ULFA team reconfirmed its top bargaining priorities (compensation and benefits, workload, member participation in academic decision-making, and equity) which were most recently restated at the start of mediation and reiterated in the February 1st negotiation session, in written communication on February 2nd, and in its proposal package of February 4th.
The Board team reconfirmed their current position and provided a written proposal on Schedule B (Benefits) as a follow-up to verbal adjustments that they had suggested on February 1st could be made to their written proposal of February 1st. Following discussion the Board asked to meet on February 8th and the ULFA team agreed.
